Concept and Initiative
- Poverty is the default condition of mankind.
- The right question to be asked is – why is there wealth in the world, not why is there poverty in the world.
- By sheer power of reasoning, hard work, savings, investment, postponement of gratification, has mankind accumulated wealth and become rich.
- Those human groups who had these qualities in more abundance, have prospered first and prospered more.
- Some human groups who prospered more early and more widely compared to others and with compounding effect, reached very high on all parameters of human development.
- However, individual differences are inevitable in any human group.
- It is a less known fact that even among highly developed groups, families (thousands) are in such poor financial condition where their children are ending up uneducated and as daily wage agricultural and other labourers.
- They are more in areas like western Nellore, western Prakasam, Palnadu, north-western Krishna (bordering Khammam and Nalgonda districts) etc.
- Even in otherwise rich areas, there are some families who went through unfortunate events such as death of bread earner and the family suddenly going broke.
- It is an established fact that people of the community possess an inbuilt enthusiasm and initiative to help others in several ways. This extends to helping their own people a bit more readily.
- They seem to have acquired this public spirit from their historical evolution as a ruling and land-owning class as well as their early introduction to European renaissance and modern secular thought process, through early adoption of English education and reformers like Kaviraju who catapulted and delivered the Society into 20th century, shorn of all the medieval baggage.
- As a result, the first half of 20th century saw the flowering of the community in all fields of the emerging modern economy and can be called the Golden Era.
- It was during that era that hostels and colleges were established in several towns by philanthropists. They produced a powerful wave of educated and intellectual giants whose impact is felt even till today.
- In the same spirit, some pioneering philanthropists from the Society in Vijayawada and Guntur, initiated efforts to establish hostels with free board and lodge and more importantly, a unique learning methodology and inculcating self-discipline in these boys and (mostly) girls.
- The hostels thus established and running in Penamalur, Srisailam and more recently in Vinukonda, Kotappakonda provided the necessary experience and proof of concept.
